In Macau

On
behalf of the crew, I replied emotionally to the written words in Karachi
'MACAU
! MAMA SUME! HERE
WE ARE!
This is my
beloved country!!
We felt Camões and we understood him.
A Nations History is incomplete unless a multidimensional character is given
with national political ingredients, culture, literature, and a vivid style of
its people.
As we were encouraged, by the Portuguese discoveries and adventure, remember
history without the ambition of making history, before deserving. We
went our way with the necessary conscience and lucidity. We guessed, or we even
had the certainty, that very painful difficulties waited for us. We weren't
wrong. With our eyes set on the far East, we left Sagres with decision and
high-spirited. We arrived tied and in a certain way dissappointed for getting to
know the world better.
I
t
was worth it!Here the daily pain has vanished, we feel good just by breathing
the air. Quoting Pessoa: It is always worth the while! We accomplished the
proposed mission, with sadness due to the delay verified, of which we are the
only ones worrying about that, and of which we know the real reasons.
MAMA SUMÉ
The Commanding Code, of which I got used to it during the long mornings of 1963
in Kibala, began to make part of my day to day basis away from the barracks,
under an unconscious tructible discipline.
Throughout our military training we remember only the war, the good and bad
times remain unforgettable, wonderfully present. It is with great enthusiasm
that old colleagues get together, at any time with our soul and honesty we
scream out "Commando" -MAMA SUME!
